The upcoming Galapagos Challenge takes place from October 7-9, 2016. The exact start time of the competition is defined by the tides and will be published as soon as the 2016 tides are charted.

Below, you’ll find route maps and descriptions of Olympic Distance, Distance Sprint, and the Cross Island Marathon and other running distances.

OLYMPIC DISTANCE

The traditional distance, which has been raced for the past eight years in a row.

SWIM – 1500m
The swim starts in the spring of artisans to marking buoys, and ends on the public pier kayak ramp in Puerto Ayora.

BIKE – 43km
Starts in the Transition Area near the Puerto Ayora public pier, travels north-northwest to the community of Salasaca and returns to the Transition Zone.

RUN – 10km
Through the streets of Puerto Ayora, where racers hear the cheers of the entire population. The circuit must be completed six times.

SPRINT DISTANCE

A distance suitable for younger participants and those who are willing to put maximum effort in a short but demanding race.

SWIM – 750m
750m out from the public passenger dock to buoy, and return to the public kayak ramp.

BIKE – 21km
Starts from the transition zone, up Avenue Baltra, taking the Puerto Ayora highway to Bellavista to Santa Rosa, to km 10.5 marker.

RUN – 5km
Through the streets of Puerto Ayora, where racers hear the cheers of the entire population. The circuit must be completed three times.

CROSS ISLAND MARATHON

42K
Competitors will be taken early in the morning by bus from Puerto Ayora to THE Itabaca Canal across the island to start the competition. Competitors board the bus at 06h00 in the San Francisco Park in Puerto Ayora to be taken to the Channel Itabaca across Ia Island, where the race starts at 07h00.

21K
This course starts from the San Francisco Park Puerto Ayora by Baltra Avenue and continues along Highway Puerto Ayora to the 10.5km marker, where racers return to the starting point. Runners participating in this competition will meet from 08h30 am at the San Francisco Park Puerto Ayora competition to start at 09h00.

10K
Competitors start at San Francisco Park in Puerto Ayora by Baltra Avenue and race to Highway Puerto Ayora Itabaca to the 5km marker, and return to the starting point. Meet starts at 08:45 am at the San Francisco Park Puerto Ayora to start the competition at 09h15.
